HALLOWEEN AND DAYLIGHT SAVINGS
Happy Halloween everyone. Not only is it halloween ( funny how no one seems to mind this tradition at all when they bitch about all the other ones.. could it be because this is not a religious based event?), but it also the 80th Anniversary of the death of Harry Houdini.
If you don't know who Harry Houdini was.. where ya been man? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Houdini .
It is also the time of year where we adjust all our clocks one hour behind.
Can we for once and for all get rid of this ? It was designed to help the farmers during harvest so they had one more hour of daylight ( they actually believed they get an extra hour by adjusting the clock ).
This map shows the world using DST. The blue is countries who use DST, the orange is countries that had DST but no longer use, and red is DST never used:
I personally think it is useless in adjusting clocks. There really is no time difference and even the farmers of Saskatchewan do not use DST. Hmm. The system was designed for farmers and yet they don't use it ! Not in the wheat fields anyway.
So I am on days off.. well sort of. I work again at some halloween parties this weekend. I love my part time job. It's fun and pays ok. There is something about live shows that I just love. It almost makes me wish I had gone into that than doing what I do. The idea of working behind the scenes and seeing everything that goes on to put on a show is a unique perspective.
Now I am not saying I want to work for U2. That would be an extreme level.. but something smaller would be a good start.
Well I think I am going to try to see what I need to do to migrate to the U.S. I do not plan on sticking around too much longer in Edmonton.
I am thinking of somewhere warmer .. somewhere desert like..hmmm let's see... California ? No. Colorado ( the southern point )? No... NEVADA? YES ! Reno? No. Las Vegas? YESSSSSS !
Maybe what I should do is try to flirt with one of those showgirls from a show and convince her to marry a crazy white Canadian. Think that would work? No? Me either.
But the plan is eventually to settle down there. I can handle up to zero degrees in the winter months.. ohhh brr !
Speaking of Las Vegas. One of the biggest complexes is about to open. A staff of 12,000.. yes. 12,000. have been hired and are all set to open CITY CENTER COMPLEX:
This is one huge complex.When I was there ( about the time this photo was taken ), it was un-real seeing all these cranes.
Here is what it looks like now ( well ..at least in September 2009):
This was a $7.5 BILLION dollar project.
Some of these are hotel rooms as well as private residential condos.. hate to see what the condo fees are for this place !
