As I start writing this, it's 10 minutes until the band U2 hit the stage in Pasadena California at the ROSE BOWL.
An expected 93000 plus , people will pack into the stadium and another couple of million will log onto YOUTUBE to watch the BIGGEST CONCERT of all time. The feed was initially going to be available only in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, but this was later changed so that the stream would be available worldwide.
No other Rock band has EVER done something like this before.. U2 is setting a record that is sure to be entered in the GUINESS book of records.
The show will also be released later next year as a DVD.
The show started with the BLACK EYE PEAS and special guest SLASH as the opening act.
U2 hits the stage at 9 pm L.A time, 10 pm Edmonton time, 1pm Tokyo time, 5am Paris time.
This is a world wide global event not to be missed and if you did , you were either at work or not a U2 fan.
My sister and brother in law are at the Bowl for the show and it should be an amazing atmosphere to be in.
As for the stage.. this is what I found on Google image search.. the stage is huge :

Here are the logistics :
The stage actually weighs in at an incredible 250 tons and rises to over 150 feet in height.
It takes about three to four days for hundreds of laborers and steel workers to erect this lighting and sound structure that will go over the stage – six cranes and 25 forklifts running all the time. Since there is a relatively short time between shows, U2 is using 3 stages that "leapfrog" across to the next stops. While one is used for the show, the second one is being built and the third is being dismantled at the previous location.
It takes 2 days to dismantle the entire stage and it gets loaded into over 120 trucks ( such great ambassadors about the environment and they use 120 trucks for one stage.. and they have 3 sets of their stage..so 360 trucks )
At each stadium, there are 7 lighting platforms to light up the fabric screens wrapping around the stage.
The stage is now the biggest stage ever used by a rock band..beating out the Rolling Stones stage for their BIGGER BANG tour.. their stage actually fits under this one.
U2 plays Edmonton Commonwealth Stadium on June 23, 2010... although there is no official announcement. Tickets are going to be average $250, $90-$95 (depending on the market), $55, and $30.
Total cost of the stage was $170 million.
The operating budget is something like $750,000 a day or $32,000 an hour.. that is incredible.
Well as I finish writing this, U2 is still performing.. right now they are singing SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY !
If they do come here, I am sure to attend it.. or work it. Looks like it's a great show.
On a final note:
Happy Birthday Cora ( my sister ) . I hope your day was everything you wanted ( U2 on your birthday is a great present ).
