Jeff Dunham and his friends entertained at Rexall Place yesterday to ( rough estimate) 9000 people.
The show started with Brian Haner , aka GUITAR GUY on Jeff's Christmas DVD.
Brian is a great guitar player and quite the comedian himself. His routine is about 20 minutes or so mixed with guitar riffs and jokes.. highlight playing the Canadian National Anthem !
Then there was a 15 minute break before Jeff comes out.
Jeff started the show by talking about how the gang move from city to city and how they sometimes end up having to fly on a private plane ( "Life is rough " ). And on one flight they had to make a landing at an UNcontrolled airport ( meaning no controller, no ground control no nothing ). They land but have no idea where to go so the pilot decides to go to this huge building on the other side of the airport. Once they parked there ( to figure out what to do ), suddenly bright flood lights lit up the cabin...
" GET OUT OF THE PLANE , 50 METERS APART AND HANDS IN THE AIR !"...
Then Jeff brings out Walter... " ohh Edmonton. Well la di frickin duh!". They talk about the usual Walter rants about his wife.. (WOMEN AGE LIKE FINE WINE.... MINE IS AGING LIKE MILK !). The discussion was funny with all the quick quirps Walter has and ended the conversation by saying he was late for his other job...at Walmart as a greeter. His line? " Welcome to Walmart... get your shit and get out!"
Jeff's next guest was ... ACHMED the dead Terrorist. Achmed greeted us with " Hello.. Canadian Infidels! ..Hahaha! " . Achmed explained how he is a terrible father by bringing his son to work with him. " They blow up so fast!". At one point, a woman yelled out " I need some ligaments", Achmed replied " Great. Have another drink". Followed by " SILENCE"... the audience knew what was next but were told "Wait for it".. " I KEEL YOU !".. then one more time later..only this time..everyone yells it out. Achmed also sang a song accompanied by THE GUITAR GUY .. who played some riffs that ACHMED would like.. Brian played some arab sounding tunes to which Achmed replied " You racist bastard.. I hate Irish music !"
The next guest was PEANUT ! Now this character is one of the funniest of the bunch... " Edddmmonnntoonnn "..
Peanut was actually out for the longest time.. even bringing out JOSE JALAPENO...ON A STEEK ! ( short stay ). Peanut then brings the Guitar guy once again to play some tunes.. at one point Jeff points out an email ( actually just a note ) and says to Peanut something about offending an Asian at the show. Peanut reads it , in a chinese accent" Dear Mr Peanut"..stop. Jeff looks at him. And reads more " Herro!". The jokes get a bit tasteless to put here but ask me and I will tell you!
There were so many funny moments in the show , it was hard to remember them all.
Right after Jeff said goodnight, he came back out and did something I have never seen before... he launched Tshirts into the crowd using an air gun.. at first with a small one and progressed to this rocket launcher. One Tshirt was launched from the stage all the way to the back rows - we are talking about 800 feet or so. Then Jeff saw the Executive boxes and asked if there was one with a window open.. he launches one Tshirt and sure enough.. right through the open door.. " If I break a window, oh well, we're outta here!"
The show ran for 2 hours and 20 minutes with a 15 minute intermission.
Over all.... great show .
I tried to see if I can meet Jeff or Brian after the show but after no responses from emails, I saw one of the producers of the show and asked him if there was a way to meet them. I was told Jeff and Brian are not doing any meet and greets after the show due to the long bus ride they have to Great Falls, Montana.
Later on, when I was leaving the parking lot, I saw Jeff's bus pull away and drive off.. never seen any artist take off after a show that quickly.
I guess it is a long bus ride but still.. 5 minutes was all I needed. A quick hello, a photo and autograph and I would have been happy with that.
If you missed Jeff's show.. well you're " a dumb ass" and Achmed is going to KEEL you !
