WOW !!! Micheal Jackson died today of cardiac arrest at the age of 50. Although I was never much of a fan of his, I can say that his music and talent was unprecedented.
Micheal of course on a professional level was a huge superstar. He was extremely talented as a singer. His personal life , however was a train wreck. Allegations of sexual misconduct to minors, alcohol use, prescription drug use were constant.
Micheal Jackson never grew up. He was always a child from his early years as a teenager to his adult life, he always remained a child.
In his adult years, he became extremely lonely and isolated himself from family and in some cases even his friends.
He sought solace in his home..NEVERLAND RANCH which of course was seized for non payments.
Micheal was worth millions.. but legal problems as well as financial took a toll. He lost everything he worked hard for. Although the allegations of sexual misconduct to a minor were not founded, his legal fees alone were in the millions.
As soon as the verdict came in, Micheal fled from the U.S and vowed to never return to the country " that gave me everything and took it all away!"
It was reported earlier this year, that Micheal Jackson was planning on performing in London England for 50 shows and then hopefully embark on a COME BACK tour.
I remember hearing of Elvis Presley dying on the radio the day after but it was not until John Lennon died in 1980 that really made me sad. I remember listening to the radio when the D.J made the announcement by cutting into a song a few hours after it happened.
In today's technological world, news spreads faster than ever. The world knows the moment it happens. As I watch KTLA from Los Angeles, it is amazing to see people of all ages gather at the hospital and hold a memorial.
Throughout the night, people gathered at his Star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame ( which was blocked off for several hours due to a movie premier ). This reminds me when Princess Diana died 12 years ago ( really! It's been that long! ). Never has the world grieved as much since that day.. Michael's death was a shock to everyone.. it was unexpected ( however by tomorrow we should know more as to the cause of it ).
From the latest reports, Micheal suffered from sever anxiety and may have had heart and lung problems. Which leads me to wonder how he passed a medical before embarking on a very physical tour? Also it was reported his physician was at the home when Michael collapsed.. ( why was his doctor there to begin with ). There are many rumors spreading..one of which is Michael's addiction to Demerol.
As confirmation of the cause is released, there will be nothing more than speculations and rumors. One thing is clear and that was there was a drug and alcohol dependency and Michael had doctors constantly around him.
Like I mentioned earlier, I was not a Micheal Jackson fan for who he was off stage. A bit weird? No. Extremely weird. But I realize of course that he was just someone who never grew up. He hung around kids because that was who he could relate to. He never matured into a man. He was a child trapped as he grew older.
But musically, he was the King of Pop. More hits than any other performer. More number 1 hits- even the first album The Jackson 5 produced 4 hits.. later on Michael would go solo and so started his career as one of the best selling solo artists of all time... even beating out Elvis. and of course who could forget ( admit it.. you have a copy) that one album that took him straight to the top....THRILLER ! ( which produced 7 number 1 hits.. amazing to have on one album ).
Yes the fans ( true ones ) are mourning a loss. But his music and dance moves will always be remembered.
RIP Micheal.
On Tuesday June 23 Ed McMahon died . Ed of course was Johnny Carson's longtime sidekick on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. Ed would be considered the King of Sidekicks and held that for over 30 years on that show. "Hhhhhhhheeerrrreeee's Johnny!" , Ed would announce as Johnny walked out from behind the curtains. A catchphrase that would be repeated by Jack Nicholson in the movie "The Shining".
Ed was also starring in his own show , STAR SEARCH, which featured young ,unsigned , talent that would become the launching points of their careers ( Sawyer Brown, Allanis Morrisette, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears etc etc ). Ed also hosted a show with Dick Clark called Bloopers and Practical Jokes showcasing bloopers from TV shows and movies as well as performing practical jokes on celebrities, as well being the spokesman for Publisher's Clearing House Lottery. But it was all those years beside Johnny Carson that made Ed famous. His laughter ( albeit at times was off... due to the alcohol consumption during taping ) was loud and noticeable.
In the last few years, Ed would become the "Unofficial " spokesman for those who were facing the mortgage crisis.
Ed's motive was to educate people that although they live in Burbank / Hollywood, they too face the dangers of losing their homes due to the mortgage crisis. Ed's $4 million home would be on the chopping block. It was Donald Trump who secured ownership and ensured Ed would have a home to live in.
One of the funniest moments on The Tonight Show was when Johnny mentioned " When my time comes..", and although Ed just sat there, it was a huge laugh when Johnny stated "When I go, you go. Did you not read that part in your contract?". Johnny Carson died on Jan 23, 2005.
Good Night Ed... thanks for all those years of bringing a smile to people's faces.
