If there is one thing to be said about all these fees the airlines and airports charge, it can be summed up with one word in most cases: OUTRAGEOUS.
I scoured the net and stumbled on the following fees airlines charge passengers:
#10: Lutton Airport in England now charge ALL drivers who drop passengers off a fee of $1.50 .
#9 : RYANAIR charges $2.00 if you have to use the bathroom.. toilet paper extra!
#8: JETBLUE Airlines charge $7.00 for a blanket and pillow. And a spokesman reportedly stated this was HIGH Quality materials and not your average pillow and blanket.
#7. Thirsty? US AIRWAYS charged $2 for a soda. They dropped the fee after a few months and a noticeable lack of consumption. But Air Canada still charges for everything but soda and juice, coffee and tea. Everything else there's MASTERCARD ! ( sorry.. I could not resist )
#6. Most U.S Airlines charge anywhere from $15 to $35 if you call to book a flight. With the easy access to the internet and booking flights online, the airlines figured they can charge customers who would rather talk to someone. I wonder if we can charge them for listening to that awful music when they put us on hold?
#5.Checked bag? Better bring extra money because most airlines are charging $15 for that first bag and upto $25 for a second bag...each way!!!
#4.Back to RYAN AIR.. they charge $15 if you check in ..AT THE COUNTER !! Yup.. you walk up to the counter to get your boarding pass, they charge you for that " faceous smiling agent who would be more than happy to check you in". Ridiculous !
#3. Curb side check ins are back. That will be $2 per bag plus tip. Add that to the #5 on the list.
#2. Want to select your own seat? Some airlines charge you to pick your own seat!! Anywhere from $10 to $20 for seat selection..each way!!!!!
#1. Some European Airports charge to use the bathroom..a small dish is placed at the entrance and you have to put some change in the bowl or the "janitor" screams at you. Some stalls won't even open until you put money in the little slot.
Here is an interesting note though: because airline charge for food, some critics have reported that airlines are throwing away more left over food than ever before. What is not understood was in the past, the cost of food was included in the passenger's fare.. so technically there was no or little cost to the airline for food. But now instead of their own food, many airlines choose to have several restaurants provide them with sandwiches, salads, and entrees.
On a more personal note. I remember as a kid travelling to Holland and Spain and other locations and the meals back then were just amazing ( food was actually very tasty in most cases ). And they were filling ! My dad and I talked about it once and he told me how many times the meals were a good portion - and healthier than the crap you get now a days.
Want to save even more $$$ ?? The day before you travel , go to a grocery store and buy goodies, croissants and such. A croissant for example cost anywhere from 50 cents to 75 cents - airports and airlines charge about $2.25 for one. Do not bring juices or bottled water as there are restrictions on liquids at most U.S and Canada Airports.
