Sarmoti..Part 2

Did you watch ABC's 20/20 last night? The return of Siegfried and Roy. What an amazing story these 2 gentlemen have experienced.

Before I get into last night's show, I want to bring you up to speed:

Siegfried and Roy were the MAIN attraction in Las Vegas for over 30 years. They performed at The Mirage since 1990 - a hotel that was managed by Steve Wynn at the time - and the hotel and theater were built around the duo . The Siegfried and Roy Secret Garden is an amazing " zoo" showcasing their animals. In 2001 the duo signed a life time contract with the hotel.

On Oct 3, 2003 Roy Horn celebrated his 59th birthday. It was a night to remember as hundreds of stage hands, family and friends spent the night celebrating. How things would change dramatically the next day!

During a performance on Oct 4, Roy Horn brought out a 5yr old tiger by the name Montecore. During this segment of the show Roy started to feel somewhat faint and was struggling to balance himself. The tiger in the meantime sensed something was wrong and may have been distracted by Roy as well as  a woman in the audience was also heavily perfumed..and may have attempted to reach up to the tiger . When Roy made attempts to get Montecore's attention ( tapping his nose with the microphone ), Roy's knees buckled and the tiger immediately leapt up and bit into Roy and proceeded to drag his body towards the backstage area. Stage hands were ready with a fire extinguisher to spray onto the cat. However just as they released the valve, Montecore let go and walked away a few feet. It was the cat that SAVED Roy's life - he was suffering from a mild stroke.

Roy was seriously injured. Reportedly Roy instructed clearly to ensure no harm is done to the cat. Roy suffered not one but 2 strokes and was declared clinicly dead an incredible 3 times.

Doctors stated he would never walk or talk (much if at all ) ever again. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for him to regain the strength and senses he once had.

The Magic of Siegfried and Roy shifted from making impossible illusions real..to the reality of overcoming the impossible.. healing. Both men suffered greatly. Roy was in a coma and fighting for his life.. Siegfried was battling depression and a sense of loss ( Siegfried and Roy have been together performing for over 45 years ).. but he had to stay strong for Roy.

The show was over! But was the magic?

For over 5 years, Roy's strength, determination and belief that nothing is impossible, made his recovery even more remarkable than any doctor would ever have thought possible.

Last year, Siegfried mentioned that the duo were going to perform for one last time.. and that is it! The finale - although not quite what they had in mind- but it was a finale nonetheless.

On Feb 28,2009 Siegfried and Roy performed a 10 minute routine at the Bellagio Hotel at a Benefit Gala. What an emotional moment when Roy walked across the stage with a lit torch, lighting a center piece torch ! He closed the lid and re-opened it..Siegfried appeared. The duo were given a standing ovation. They then proceeded to do a metamorphosis..Siegfried changed into a tiger.. Montecore ! And there they were. The 3 of them on stage together again ! They ended their careers the way they wanted.. on a high note! And that is what they did. Medical doctors, specialists stated this would be impossible. For these two gentlemen... far from!

It was a moment never to be forgotten. Siegfried and Roy have done the impossible. They truly believe the magic of healing and patience. They overcame the odds ! As Siegfried's voice is heard at the end of the routine :

" Look for the magic that is around you. In nature, in animals, every where. Let it enlighten your heart..and..your life".

How true is that sentence! Siegfried and Roy are true masters of the Impossible. They overcame the odds and showed what may be impossible can be possible.

Siegfried and Roy own 63 tigers ( they raise litters to build up the population for conservation reserves ) , 16 lions, a couple of cougars and leopard plus numerous other animals. Gildah , a ceremonial Thai Elephant died in September 2005 ..at the age of 58!

Thank you Siegfried and Roy ,

SARMOTI !
