Just doing some blog-hopping before getting my supper on the go. Hope you've been having a nice weekend.
The Edmonton Magic Club is proud to present an Evening of Magic and Illusions on April 4 at the Victoria School of Performing Arts. Two shows , 2pm and 6 pm. And yes, your truly will be there. Although I am not a headliner act , I will be doing other things to ensure we bring the best Magic this city has ever seen. Once tickets become available for purchase, I will post it on here as well as on FACEBOOK. All proceeds go to Kids with Cancer ! So it is for a great cause and everyone in the club supports local charities.
I am also happy to see that Seigfried and Roy are going to be doing one more performance as a finale. As most people know , Roy Horn was bite by a tiger during a show on Oct 3, 2003. The long running show at the Mirage came to a tragic end. As Seigfried said in an interview " This was not the way we wanted it to end. We were going to announce retiring but this changed everything!". Seigfried and Roy are the engineers of bringing Magic to Las Vegas. From 1972-1990 they performed all over the Strip, settling at The Mirage in 1990. In 1999, they were given the award of Magicians of the Millenium. By 2001 , they signed a mult-million dollar life time contract with the hotel.
On Oct 3, 2003, Seigfried and Roy started their show like they have done for the past 30 years. During one segment, Roy brought out a tiger named Montecore. It was during that segment where the tiger leapt up and bite him ( it was protecting him.. no dispute on this one ..but try anyway ). Roy suffered major blood lose, 2 strokes, and survival was slim to none.
Last year, Seigfried was at a dinner/ gala where he made the announcement.. "We will be back!". And that time has come..Feb 28,2009 at The Bellagio. Seigfried and Roy's final performance.. it WILL end the way they wanted to. The final curtain call. However..ticket prices for this event is an astounding $750 and up.. dinner included ( at that price..several dinners should be included ).. by Wolfgang Puck ( I dont care who is cooking dinner..that's a lot of $$$ ). I hate when the rich and elite have these exclusives.. what about the fans who supported them ALL THESE YEARS!!!
As for Roy, his recovery has been remarkable. Not only walking and talking but is actually strong enough, at this point, to do a performance. The doctors had since day one told him ,he can't do it ! Not to these guys...Nothing is Impossible.. and never ever tell a magician he can't... he will find a way !
I have always been fascinated with magic and illusions. I remember seeeing David Copperfield years ago and wondering how he did it. Since then, I started reading books and luckily there was a magic store and I got to buy some trinkets.. hooked ever since!
Then the bug really hit me... I went to Las Vegas in 1996 for the first time.. the magic was electric. It was everywhere. I was hooked. I was on cloud 9. So much magic! What show to see.. ahh the masters .. Seigfried and Roy..! SARMOTI ( Seigfried and Roy Masters Of The Impossible ).
And although the Masters of Magic are retiring, they will never be forgotten !
And so after 31 years in Las Vegas, performing over 6,000 shows in front of millions , creating a tiger habitat at the hotel and their home ( raising awareness of how endangered these animals are) , dedicating their lives to preserving these precious animals, and being the first two to defy the odds and brought magic to a whole new level.
Thank You Seigfried and Roy for the joy you brought to millions. May your retirement be what it was meant to be.. God Bless you both!
