What would you do?

I just finished watching a show on ABC called " What would you do?". In 3 segments, the network set up scenarios and recorded people's reaction. So now I will pass them onto you:

1. You are in a bakery. A salesclerk is helping a blind customer and when you pay closer attention, you notice the person hand the clerk a $50. The clerk hands back 6 one dollar bills but claims it to be the correct change. You know it is not! Would you say something? During the segments, they noted people responded more with a female being victimized than a male...

2. You are at an amazing wedding. A couple of times you have engaged in a conversation with the same person. As the day progresses, you discover this person you have been talking to has changed his stories with several people. You then realize this person may be a wedding crasher. Do you say something or not?  Here was their results: The women would NOT say anything because the guys were " cute " or were " just gentlemen".. but the guys wanted to kick these guys in the ass for what they did.

3. You are at an open house that is on the market. As you walk around the house, you notice a woman reach onto the table and remove an item and places it in her purse. You are not quite sure what you just witnessed but then you see it again. Do you report her to the owner? Ignore it? or confront the person? When the show had a female thief, many responded very diplomaticly..when the thief was a black woman..the reactions changed..somewhat. If the thief was a male..confronted.. a black male..confronted but a bit more physical.

So there you have it. I was pretty amazed at how people reacted differently all depending on gender and race. It still plays a big part of how people respond to the situation. I remember last year they did a similar story with a "couple" having an argument. If they were white, it was not as bad as if it was a black couple.

ABC by the way hire actors to play out these scenarios. In the case of no.1 - the cashier was an actor , the blind customer was actually blind..but is an actor as well. No 2. The only ones who knew they had the wedding crashers were the bride and groom- and yes it was done on their wedding..  No 3. The owner of the house was an actor as well as those who played thieves.

I find that even today we have a problem in dealing with people and their skin colour. It should not really matter but it does.

Anyway I noticed this blog was actually missing..so I had to re-write it.
