Just doing some blog-hopping before getting my supper on the go. Hope you've been having a nice weekend.
Barack Obama was sworn in today.. what an amazing sight to see millions of people gather at the Capitol to witness the first BLACK President of the U.S taking the Oath of Office. Media reports over 2 million being present.. and among them...4500 Washington Police, 4000 Police Officers from other States, 10000 National Guards, FBI, Secret Service and other Law Enforcement Officers.. everyone at the Capitol ! My only question : Were cops anywhere else during the day?
Anyway... Bye Bye George Bush.. wonder how many people are relieved to see him go? I don't think anyone can do more damage as he did! Industry bail outs in the billions, a mess in Iraq, an economic melt down.. and an approval rating of 30% - pretty low and pretty well a blithering idiot!
I only hope the people of the U.S do not put too much high expectations on Barack. It's bad enough he has one hell of a mess to clean up - mostly due to Bush's ignorance in helping his country rather than his own self interest ( Hurricane Katrina is a great example ). The people of the U.S have almost made Barack to be some sort of a messiah who can deliver them out of the mess they are in. What if he can not do it? I don't think for one minute that the U.S can clean itself up within 4 years. And then who do you blame? Barack? You can't blame someone for trying to clean up the mess he was handed to.
One of the traditions is for the incumbent President to leave a note on the desk ..George wrote " Good Luck".. probably in crayon too, thanks George..he's going to need it.. thanks mostly to you!
Now for me personally, I am more of a republican ( I do not like George Bush so don't say it's the same.. it's not ). I believe McCain could have straightened the country out and he would have made a great stand on Afghanistan and Bin Laden. I do not think he would let the situation in Iraq continue. I disagree with Obama closing down Guatanamo Bay ( what do you do with the prisoners? Send them home? Great! Omar Khdar - the Canadian terrorist who killed a US soldier - is free..wow! ) I think that would be a huge mistake on Obama's part. The biggest down fall to McCain was his age and his running mate- I think a lot of Americans were afraid that if McCain dies in Office- they were not ready for Palin to lead them.
And so a new chapter in U.S history begins. The legacy of the Bush family has ended ( unless Jebb (?? ) runs ). Obama has mighty big shoes to fill and he has one tough battle ahead.. Good Luck Mr. President!
