Just doing some blog-hopping before getting my supper on the go. Hope you've been having a nice weekend.
I just finished watching a CTV show called " To Hell with Manners". I was amazed as to how rude a society we have become. No one says Thank you or You're welcome.
Several segments featured people in their day to day activities ..everything from not offering your seat to an obviously pregnant woman. .. not keeping a door open long enough for the next person.. cellphones ringing during speeches, lectures or at shows ( I was at a show recently where I heard a cellphone ring..another person was actually RECORDING the show even though there was an announcement that cameras , recordings were forbidden ).
Drive around for a bit and you can even see the rudeness spread onto the streets. Driving from a merging lane onto the main lane can be challenging.. the Alberta driver's Handbook states "It is recommended that drivers already on the highway should, whenever possible and when safe to do so, move to the left-hand lane when approaching an acceleration lane. This leaves the right travel lane clear for the merging vehicles to enter. " Although this rarely happens.. most times it's the left lane driver who speeds up so you can not merge.
As I mentioned briefly in one of my previous blogs, I recently left a message board because of all the hostility and rudeness and overall a lack of respect. I just had enough of it. People were becoming incredibly rude and start disrespecting others and critisizing them and just being plain old rude!
So why have we ( ok.. I know most of us are not that rude.. I mean this overall ) become this rude ? We live in such a communications age that we are pushing away the manners that should just be plain old common sense.
A great example is at airports where things can turn in an instant. One of the biggest places to find rudeness? Right at the Security / Screening Checkpoints. I can not recall the exact number of times I have dealt with rude people who feel they should be the " priviledged and not be treated like a criminal". Well ok.. I can see that..but no need to be rude to an Officer who simply doing their job. It's what they were trained to do.
I am sickened at times when I see the amount of rude people. Even earlier today at a store where several of us were clearly lined up waiting for the next " Self Check Out" ( One of the units was shut off..not working ) when someone decided to cut in front of us all . When someone said something but before he could answer , we all pointed to the back of the line.
I could go on and on about this.. a topic I am sure will never run dry. I do not like rude people and I know sometimes I am not the most well mannered person but I do try to be polite when possible and sometimes I do not come across that way..but I try!
