Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had an awesome evening with friends, family or in some cases co-workers! My night was great! I spent it with my "second" family . James, Daimen, Christina, Kristina, Bill, Elaine, Clinton . It was a fun night of drinks, food, cigars, and lots of chatting. What amazed me was when we turned the TV on to see the time, "live" from Niagra Falls... Roger Hodgson of SUPERTRAMP!

What is with CANADIAN celebrations and we get BRITISH or AMERICAN artists to perform. Where are all the CANADIAN bands?? We have so many great bands..Trooper, Helix, Honeymoon Suite ( ok..these guys were in Edmonton at the Raddison Hotel ), Lee Aaron, Headpins, Burton Cummings, Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies.. etc..

Here is one thing I would love to see on every New Year's Day.. an outdoor NHL game. A few years ago, The Edmonton Oilers held an outdoor game against the Montreal Canadiens. It was a huge success. I guess so when 57,000 plus fans came out in -18C weather. Today's game is the Chicago Blackhawks against Detroit Red Wings. I honestly think the NHL should consider doing this every year!

This is the fourth time the NHL held an outdoor game. The first being in 1991 L.A Kings vs NY Rangers which was held on September 28.. in LAS VEGAS at Caesar's Palace! In September!!! ( Footnote: Vegas is one major city that has NO MAJOR LEAGUE SPORTS TEAM whatsoever). The second was of course the Oilers /Habs in Nov 2003, Penguins and Sabres played last year.

A fun thing my family does on this day is we get together and eat dutch treats ( battered and deep fried apple slices  then sprinkled with icing sugar.. called appel flappen ). I'll be going there later this afternoon and spend some time with them, considering I worked through out Christmas week and really could use a break!
